Which sexy ‘Thor’ star will you see in Star Trek?

Idris Elba is on fire. 2016 seems to be his year – he’s been involved in several major releases just in the past few months, like The Jungle Book, Zootopia, Bastille Day, and the wildly anticipated Finding Dory next month.

Elba has such presence, whether it’s in his perfect bone structure, his deep, velvety voice. Multi-talented, he directs, DJs, makes music… Stringer Bell has come so far. He’s about to go even further, where no man has ever gone before.

If you haven’t seen the official Star Trek: Beyond trailer yet, don’t bother. And if you have, you’re better off purging the thought entirely – if this epic fan-edit doesn’t make you totally psyched, whether you’re a Trekkie or not, then well, nothing will!

Elba plays this installment’s Big Bad. “You’ve never seen me play a character like this,” he says. “I think ‘Star Trek’ has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains, like ‘he’s a guy who wants to end the world’… But in this version of the film, there’s a slightly different twist to that…[b]ut, it still keeps with the ‘classic bad guy is a classic bad guy’ tone”.

I don’t know if when he says “classic bad guy” he really means “sexy and misunderstood”, but we all know that’s how it’s gonna play out.

Star Trek: Beyond opens in Singapore on 21 July 2016. Personally, I think you should:

1) Follow Idris Elba on facebook

2) Send him some love on instagram,

3) and maybe go back and re-watch seasons 1-3 of The Wire.

Catch Idris Elba in cinemas now in Zootopia or Bastille Day. Get your tickets on Popcorn!
